Tyler's new toy

I found this at PetsMart last night and could not resist.

Winston is a wonderpug.
He's silly, cute and likes to hug.
He's happiest when he's the clown
And when he's hanging upside-down.

Summer Solstice Blessing

I am a couple days late on this, but summer is an entire season so why not still celebrate? Puggy brought me joy, and seeing as she has returned to the earth - she would encourage celebration of the cycles of nature.

As the sun spirals its longest dance,
Cleanse us
As nature shows bounty and fertility
Bless us
Let all things live with loving intent
And to fulfill their truest destiny

Portrait 'o Pug

This is a silly little picture I drew of Puggy early in her life - it does her no justice. I gave it to my boyfriend and he put it in his wallet where he has kept it many years. To Puggy: I hope you feel as fiesty and playful now as when you inspired this goofy sketch.

Puggy (1994 - 2005)

Puggy, through your whole life you would come to me and let me hold you when I was hurting, and now you aren't here. I miss you, sweet baby girl. You are in my heart forever.

Tiny puglet (1994). You mesmerized us all from the start.

Sassy pug! (1996) It was no secret who ruled the house.

You always loved sniffing (and sneezing on) flowers. From now on, each flower I plant will be for you.

Snorting Beauties

The kind wishes and thoughts from those who care about Puggy must be helping, because my girl is still hangin' in there. A couple weeks ago, her initial cough medication (aminophylline) was replaced with a new cough medication (theophylline). Although she still coughs when excited or after walking around, she is doing much better on theophylline. Most of her breathing is not as labored as before.

Tyler is ... well, he's Tyler. Last night he was running around with poo in his mouth, but he spit it out when his dad yelled at him. This we call "progress." But he is worth the battle when I wake up in the morning and he is lying there in the crook of my arm, staring at me with those big brown pug eyes. I can only imagine what he might be thinking:

"Hmmm. She's not moving. Is she dead? Can I eat her yet?"
"Humans - so cute when they sleep."

Hopefully it's the latter.

But when Tyler does this, it reminds me how Puggy used to lay nuzzled close against my shoulder and stare at me in between all the snooze button alarms. She doesn't do that any more, and I think it's because she is unable to get comfortable laying close to someone because of the extra heat generated by another body. When breathing is difficult, being too warm (and squished by some human's big butt) is anything but a solution. So she gravitates to the foot of the bed now. I miss being able to snuggle with her, but Puggy is no longer comfy with that. And who am I to argue with a Snorting Princess? :o\
